Slide 1 of 12 Notes: Elements of music parallel qualities of spoken language - rhythm, intensity, duration, accents, inflection, pitch, intonation. Music is more aurally accessible to hearing-impaired individuals than is normal speech as music is more intense, employs more frequencies and is composed of notes which are greater in duration than is normal speech. Music therapy has been used effectively to teach auditory discrimination and language skills to children with hearing-impairments. But how effective is it for children who dont know what sound is? The purpose of this term paper was to research existing studies to determine how effective music therapy is for children with cochlear implants. |
