Water (1986) -

GENERAL FINDINGS

Speech production significantly improved following speech therapy alone

Within 2 weeks - implant users perceived difference in number of syllables and in length of normal and abnormally lengthened syllables

Could distinguish between male and female voices

After 6 months - could perceive and produce pitch changes, all subjects showed improvement in speech production (partially due to auditory feedback from implant)
