Description of a Music Therapy Session |
Music therapy sessions can be conducted in a group setting or in an
individual one-on-one setting. The length of the sessions can vary, but are
usually 30 to 60 minutes in length and usually meet one to two times per week.
Music therapy sessions usually begin with a familiar "hello" song
and end with a summary "good-bye" song. All session interventions
are planned to address individual goals and objectives and are chosen to meet
the needs and preferences of each client. Music therapy treatment sessions may
include one or more of the following types of music interventions:
- Movement to music
- Music games/social interaction activities
- Song-writing activities
- Lyric analysis/discussion
- Singing and/or vocal improvisations
- Playing instruments and/or instrumental improvisations
- Music and relaxation activities
- Music and guided imagery activities
- Music performances
